Stories from the Community
I came for the introductory week not really knowing what to expect. By day three I had met more interesting people than I had in the previous two years living at home. The meals were genuinely good β I was surprised how much variety there was. I booked the Coastal Retreat before I left.

We have been coming for the winter season for two years now. Our daughter was initially nervous about us moving to Thailand for three months at a time, but after visiting us here she was completely won over. The team knows us by name within the first few days, which says a lot.

The island setting is genuinely beautiful β waking up to tropical gardens every morning never quite becomes ordinary. I have been a full resident for eight months now. The cooking sessions and evening socials are my favourite parts. I would have liked slightly faster Wi-Fi, but it is rarely a real problem.

My wife and I moved here permanently last year after doing the seasonal programme twice. The family accommodation option was important to us β our grandchildren visited over the New Year and it was the best visit we have had in years. That says everything.

I was apprehensive β I had heard mixed things about senior living communities generally and was worried about a loss of independence. Sabai Jai is not that at all. Nobody tells you what to do or when. The activities are there if you want them and not if you don't. It has been a genuinely good chapter of my life.

The cultural visits are a highlight β we have explored parts of Koh Samui and the mainland that I would never have found on my own. My Thai cooking has improved considerably. The team has been unfailingly warm and organised. A small note: I would like to see more outdoor seating near the pool.

Some Stories in More Detail
The Situation
Anne, 71, had retired from nursing in the UK and was living alone in a large house she no longer needed. Her children lived in different countries and visits were infrequent. She described feeling more isolated than she had ever expected retirement to feel.
The Approach
She booked the introductory week after reading about Sabai Jai in a retirement forum. After three days she extended to the full week. She then returned for the three-month Coastal Retreat the following winter and, on her second visit, decided to make the move permanent.
What Changed
Anne has been a full resident for fourteen months. She leads the weekly cooking session and has become one of the community's informal anchors for newcomers. She describes Sabai Jai as the first place since working where she feels genuinely needed and connected.
"I came to see. I stayed because it felt like where I was supposed to be."

The Situation
David and Elise, both 68, had spent years in Japan and the Netherlands and were comfortable with international living. They wanted a warm-climate base for four months of the year without the burden of managing a second property.
The Approach
The Coastal Season Retreat was exactly what they were looking for β private accommodation, no property management, a built-in social structure, and flexible departure. They contacted us in October and arrived in January.
What Changed
They are now in their second consecutive seasonal stay. Elise has joined the craft workshop group. David has started helping other new arrivals understand the local area. They describe it as the part of the year they look forward to most.
"We have always liked the idea of different chapters. This is the winter chapter, and it is a good one."
